Friedrich D50BP 50 Pint Dehumidifier Review

Friedrich D50BP 50 Pint Dehumidifier Review

Have you ever looked for a product that just does it for you? Well, this is just what I got when I was out looking for a new dehumidifier for my home. Among the many brands I came across while browsing at an on-line shop, the design of the dehumidifier from Friedrich is what caught my eye. I really loved the simple yet elegant design that, as I could see, would easily fit into my home decor. So, let’s start this Friedrich D50BP 50 Pint Dehumidifier review with the built of the machine.

Hardware & Design:

On making a review of the dehumidifier, it looks almost like those very small refrigerators, only that its design is very elegant. Just like the refrigerator has both a top and bottom door, the Friedrich D50BP 50 Pint Dehumidifier has both a bottom and top compartments. The bottom compartment can easily be removed. Its sides have some small indentations which can be used to carry the humidifier with. What’s more is that the humidifier, on its whole, has movable legs on its base, which means that you can easily trolley it about.

Accessories:

The dehumidifier comes with the following accessories:

Key Features:

The humidifier has the following key features:

A condensate bucket –

This bucket has a carry handle, making the bucket removable. It is positioned at the front of the dehumidifier, and collects the humidity that you can manually remove and have it drained out. This bucket is one of the three options you have for draining the collected water.

Built-in drain pump –

This pumps condensation either horizontally or vertically for up to 15 feet, with an option for continuous drainage from the back drain outlet. These two are the other options for draining away the water, without having to manually empty the bucket. The gravity drain hose provided with the humidifier is what is connected at the back of the dehumidifier, and then the internal pump helps pump the water away, through the hose to a drainage destination. This can be for a distance that is a maximum of 15 feet away.

Control Panel –

A review of the Friedrich D50BP 50 Pint Dehumidifier’s control panel is designed in a user friendly fashion, right at the roof of the dehumidifier. This means that you can easily operate the dehumidifier. It has two screens; one for the current room temperature and the setting of the timer, and the other for display of the humidity when the dehumidifier is in normal operation and shows any adjustments made for the desired humidity levels.

Intuitive Indicators –

The dehumidifier has indicators on the display panel which indicate when the bucket is full, as well as shuts itself down should the bucket be full and you are not available to drain it out. It will only start functioning again once the bucket has been emptied.

The humidifier also has an all-day all night timer, and displays the room temperature as well as its humidity level.

Drainage System:

One of the best things about this dehumidifier is its drainage features. It has three options for drainage, as mentioned earlier. The first one is the manual drainage option, where the water is collected in the condensate bucket, and later drained out when full. The other is the gravity hose pipe which drains out water that collects inside the dehumidifier and the final one is the built-in pump that helps drain the water out of the dehumidifier, either vertically or horizontally. With the hose pipes provided with the dehumidifier, you have any of these three options to suit your needs.

Pros:

  • The built-in pump is a very good idea there.
  • The company has great customer service.
  • Works well in removing the humidity.
  • Produces less noise when set on low.

Cons:

  • Some of the Friedrich D50BP 50 Pint Dehumidifier reviews show a problem with the way it operates when you select when it should shut off. If you set it to shut off at a 50% humidity, it only responds much earlier than that.
  • It also has a much shorter life-span compared to other dehumidifiers. Within just a few months, some of its parts, like the pump, start having functional problems.
  • The fan is very noisy when you set it on high.

Ease of Use:

The dehumidifier is pretty easy to use. You just plug it into the power source, select your preferred settings in time and humidity, and then let it do its job. Its trolley legs makes it easy for you to move it to different locations, and its user-interface is super easy to use. Overall, your experience of suing the dehumidifier is just superb.

Energy Efficiency:

When it comes to energy efficiency, the dehumidifier has an energy star rating, meaning that it does not consume a lot of energy. It thus runs efficiently on energy.

Warranty Details:

The warranty given for this product is much like that of many other Friedrich products. You get a one year warranty where should the product fail to operate as intended, you are free to transport, at your own expense, the dehumidifier to any of the Friedrich outlets near you for repairs. This is applicable only if the product fails due to poor workmanship or defective parts, and not carelessness on part of the buyer.

Verdict

Well, apart from the stylish design that I absolutely loved about this humidifier, Friedrich D50BP 50 Pint Dehumidifier with built-in drain pump does a great job in removing excess humidity from your room. Its initial cost may be high, but the cost of repairing damaged property because of humidity is much higher.

Final Thought

After using this dehumidifier for some time now, I would definitely recommend it to you. Though it has some few problems, much like many other dehumidifiers out there, I’m yet to find any dehumidifier that offers great service, as well as an option for the defrosting in lower temperatures. It is definitely the best dehumidifier I have for my basement.
